Why Elements for Bone Health?

At Elements, our Bone Health Program is thoughtfully designed to support individuals with osteopenia and osteoporosis through safe, effective, and evidence-based movement and strength training. Developed by Dr. Justine Bernard and implemented alongside Dr. Lisa Grimmer and expert trainers Stephanie Jolivet, Carolyn O’Reilly, and Zahra Carpenter, our program combines clinical expertise with compassionate, personalized care.

Meet the Team

Justine Bernard 1

Justine Bernard, PT, DPT

Dr. Justine Bernard, is a Physical Therapist, Personal Trainer, and Master trainer of the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® movement Methods. After dancing professionally and teaching exercise in NYC, she returned to school to receive a doctorate in physical therapy. In 2007, she opened Elements Fitness and Wellness Center, a physical therapy clinic in Washington DC specializing in Bone Health (Osteoporosis), Pelvic Health, and Orthopedics. She has created exercise programs for hundreds of people worldwide with Osteopenia and Osteoporosis. For nearly 20 years, she has led an Osteoporosis support group through BHOF, with Dr. Andrea Singer as medical director.

Lisa Grimmer, PT, DPT

Dr. Lisa Grimmer, is a life long mover who found her home in life as a Doctor of Physical Therapy. After being diagnosed with osteopenia in her late 20’s, she focused seriously on strength training and bone building as her own “patient zero.” Her 20 years of experience in traditional strength training, as well as her training in Rehabilitative Pilates and GYROTONIC® exercise, inform her practice. She blends manual and dry needling techniques, in addition to exercise interventions that translate to real life activities, to deliver a custom approach to her patients. She welcomes all populations, but delights in helping individuals who want to move better and stay active as they age, even with orthopedic or health complications. Lisa finds joy in helping her patients achieve their goals and find sustainable solutions to continue their wellness journey beyond therapy. In her free time she loves indoor rock climbing, running around town, strength training, and will seldom turn down a friendly karaoke night.

Our support groups offer a safe and nurturing space for individuals to share their journeys, learn from others, and find encouragement. Whether you’re navigating the challenges of a specific condition or seeking guidance in your wellness journey, our groups are here to support you.

 

Osteoporosis Support Group

This group provides valuable insights and strategies to improve bone health and overall well-being. Participate in discussions and learn how exercise can be a cornerstone of your wellness plan.

We offer 4 meetings per year each run by Dr. Justine Bernard and Dr. Lisa Grimmer.
